MS has always been near and dear to our hearts.
Our mum lives with multiple sclerosis.
We’ve both watched the impact MS can have on someone you love. For me, living interstate means I don’t see every change in Mum’s health as it happens, while my brother is much closer to it day to day.
Sometimes the deterioration is gradual. Other times, news comes unexpectedly, and we’re reminded how unpredictable this disease can be — and how little we know about what the next phone call might bring.
More than 37,000 Australians are living with MS, and so much of what people experience can be invisible to those around them.
So, on 26 November, we’re taking on the Kosciuszko 50km to raise money for MS.
The course covers 50km through the Snowy Mountains, with more than 1,400 metres of vertical climbing along the way.
For us, those 50km represent something simple: while we have the privilege of healthy bodies that allow us to run, we want to use them to help people whose bodies don’t always give them that same choice.
It will also be a huge personal milestone.
This will be our first marathon distance and our first ultramarathon — all in the same day.
And we’re not approaching it simply with the goal of finishing.
With 1,200+ runners taking on the 50km, we’re setting ourselves an ambitious target: finish in under six hours and place inside the top 50–100.
We’ll be channeling every ounce of energy we have into the training and into race day to give that goal everything we’ve got.
But ultimately, the result isn’t what matters most.
Every early morning, every long run, every climb and every one of those 50 kilometres will represent something much bigger than a finishing position.
This will be our first 50km, but we want it to be just the beginning of our fundraising journey for MS.
