What I'm Doing

This year the annual Sydney to Gong bike ride has been moved to a virtual event over October, and many of the 24hr Megaswim events have been cancelled too.  I'm not a cyclist and don't have a functional bike so I'm mashing these events together to make my own challenge to fundraise in a tough year for everyone.

I've decided to swim 92km between 21 August and 31 December 2020 (hopefully sooner or further!) as this is the original distance my Dad and older cousin rode back in the 90's for the Sydney to Gong bike ride.  I'm giving myself plenty of time just to make sure I don't injure myself or just in case I lose access to a public pool during the COVID crisis!

A Bit About MS

It’s quite staggering to think that multiple sclerosis affects more young people than any other chronic neurological condition. It can strike anyone at any time and the symptoms vary so widely.

For instance, can you imagine waking up one day unable to do the everyday things you would usually take for granted? Like not being able to see properly (or at all), you physically can’t get out of bed, can’t walk to the phone to call someone – anyone – or live a life without pain?

All of a sudden your world has changed.

Thanks to your generous support, the funds we raise will allow people living with multiple sclerosis to access vital MS support services. Support to keep Aussies living with multiple sclerosis in the work force, and connecting people who are newly diagnosed with the information and support they need.

Thank you again for your support, I will be thinking of the well wishes and comments on this page as I take on my challenge!

My Updates

On the final day I made it past Dapto!

Thursday 31st Dec

Update as at 31/12/2020 (challenge day 133)

So I just had 2 weeks off due to a non-COVID bug and Christmas, but I managed to get 3km done on the last couple of days.

What I Did!

This year the annual Sydney to Gong bike ride became a virtual event over October, and many of the 24hr Megaswim events were cancelled too, so I decided to swim a minimum of 92km (the 90's gong ride distance).

I set myself the challenge in late August and on the final day of the year I have swum 110km total- a distance leaving me somewhere just past Dapto.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far, I'm going to keep swimming and hope you can spread the word so that I can reach my updated fundraising target of $1K!
